The East Bank Trail portals celebrate the beginning of a new river trail along the Milwaukee River's east bank. Caesar's Park on the south and the Urban Ecology Center on the north signify the 1 1/4 mile trail. The foundations and donors helping to make the project possible are recognized on the tiles describing the turtle's under shell. Project by Marina Lee and Chris Leslie.

Making the Shell

Prepartion for the latex mold
Description: The prepartion for step one of a simple two part mold. The backside will have the tiles set. |
Chris Leslie creates the steel
Description: Chris not only creates the head and claws through blacksmith techniques, he also creates the inner rebar structure for strengthening the concrete. |
The Pour
Description: The concrete is poured into the mold, over the rebar and then the tiles are placed into the wet concrete. |
The Installation
Description: Scaffolding was used to hold the turtles in place while the concrete set up. Marek Landscaping |
Plantings
Description: River Revitalization Foundation oversaw young adults and teens from various programs for planting the native plants at the sites. |
