Description: Phase 1 of the Milwaukee Millennium Art Project involved many children from the city. The Elementary students created stepping stones.

Friendship Pins and Wishes

Description: The MPS highschool students created friendship pins. Each pin had 3 rings representing past, present and future. The 3 rings were then strung with beads and pendants made of bone, metal, ceramic, stone and glass found from around the world. These friendship pins held their wishes and wishes of other to the heart of the vessel--the center arches.

Description: A whole community worked for 5 months to create 'Journey' for the grand opening of the Midwest Community Center in Milwaukee, WI.

Hopes and Dreams

Description: The portrait banners were created by middle school students depicting the faces of Milwaukee's future. The metal arches describing the heart of the vessel and holding all the friendship pins and wishes were created by Marian Vieux. Marian has defined her overlays of fabric on the metal arches as 'the defining spiraling path around the poles are symbolic of a journey into an ethereal world through which mind and sirit travel.'

Phase 2 of the Millennium Project 1999

Description: The entire project was supported by the Wisconsin Center District and the Greater Milwaukee Convention and Visitors Bureau. The project has now been transformed into 'Time'. The head and tail of the vessel now stand as arches in time. A celebration of the Millennium. A respect and hope for the new Millennium. The sculputre and all it's wonderful components is shown here on exhibit in San Diego Convention Center representing the City of Milwaukee.
